Our Juniors sponsors are: Absence Insurance Services and Rattner Mackenzie Limited who have sponsored the year 7 and 9 teams! Your support is much appreciated!(please see details of these companies on our SPONSORS page) So, what’s been going on? There’s so much happening it’s hard to know where to start… There used to be a Junior Club some years back, but, due to health and safety issues, and risk assessment and insurance it had to stop. This was very sad and meant that our area had no junior netball club for miles. But thanks to Braintree College offering us the wonderful facility of their indoor sport hall we are now back in business. In the mean time, and as you may know, under the guidance of Mick Fowler and his trusty committee, Braintree has an established Senior Club. What you may not have known is that this has now developed into the largest senior club in the Chelmsford & District League (and also the East Region) with 9 teams! What’s that got to do with the Junior Section? Well quite a lot…that’s because it gives you the comfort of knowing that you’d be joining an established club that is run professionally. I know that sounds a bit boring, but it’s crucial to our success. In fact, it’s essential if we are to deliver all the things that you want from a club and meet our commitment to England Netball and our various legal obligations. What does this mean? We aim to offer you an exciting netball experience where you can have fun and flourish…but what this also means is that you and your parents/guardians will have the comfort of knowing that you’ll be coached by England Netball qualified coaches; who are correctly insured; who have adopted the clubs duty of care and child protection policies and who have also been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). These steps have also helped the club to achieve a CAPS accreditation, which is a quality club mark from England Netball and Sport England. Will I be good enough? If you’re eager to learn, keen to progress and polite… then you’re good enough! This clubs ethos is to help you reach your full potential in a manner that stimulates, challenges, excites and encourages you as a person and as a player. Our coaches will aim to do this by: > Providing quality coaching in a caring, secure environment > Promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle > Helping to develop self-confidence, self-esteem and personal responsibility > Encouraging kindness, tolerance and respect for others > Praising and celebrating personal and collective success > Providing equal opportunities to all club members and prospective members Will the club be playing matches? We will have teams in the Junior Chelmsford league And the Colchester Junior League. We also enter rallies. Clubs affiliated to AENA (and we are one) will be insured for Years 5 & 6 if they adopt the new High 5’s format, which schools will also be encouraged to adopt. Braintree Town Netball Club has taken a pro-active approach to embrace this new format as it will benefit younger players and it is hoped that more clubs will follow suit. The most important thing is to ensure that you thoroughly enjoy your time with the club and for us to tailor a coaching plan that suits the needs and abilities of all the players. Tell me about your coaches? Karen Trigg - an AENA Level 2/3 coach and our Junior Club Organiser - has been involved in netball for as long as she can remember… with a mum that set up her own netball club and who helped start the Chelmsford & District Netball League its was hard for her not to be involved!! Things seemed to have moved full circle now and two of her daughters also play for their schools/club. Over the years Karen has played in junior and senior leagues until deciding to concentrate on junior coaching. She started coaching about about 11 years ago when she was first asked to coach netball at a local primary school in Gosfield, where she has helped ever since. In recent years she coached a team in the Chelmsford & District League from the age of Year 5 to Year 7, attended more rallies and tournaments than she can remember, helped with local senior school coaching, run netball coaching days and helped as a group leader at an AENA Easter Camp at Cobham Hall…Phew! Karen has attended courses/workshops on child protection, talent development and shooting skills. Karen also works as a Multisport coach for Braintree District Council. Mick Fowler - an AENA Level 3 coach and our Club Coach - is also a qualified tennis coach and an England Netball talent scout and Coach tutor. Mick first got involved with netball when he coached his wife Sue to play tennis. Sue is the current 1st team GD and was playing netball for Christ Church Netball Team and their coach left to have a baby and Mick became involved with their fitness work. He soon caught the netball bug and began to learn to coach the game. 14 years later and he is now one of only 2 men in the country to achieve his level 3 award. Mick has coached and managed the Regional Talented Player programme, coached the Essex Met County U18 squad and the East Essex County U14 squad as well as the East Essex County U16 Academy and the Colchester, Harlow & Chelmsford U14 Academies. He is the club senior coach. for any further information about the club and it's coaches and programmes please contact Mick or Karen |
